ARTIST STATEMENT

My work focuses on representing the diversity and beauty of the black community, as well as
exploring themes such as identity, discrimination, and marginalization. I use a variety of mediums including painting and collage to communicate my ideas and emotions.
My focus in painting is on the eyes, nose, and mouth that best express our emotions. I also believe it helps us experience each other’s feelings more intuitively; an exchange of information between the subject’s message and the viewer without words.
My work forces the viewer to engage with the subject’s story physically and emotionally.
